Sweet Pepper Chutney

Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 15 mins | Serves: 4



Oil – 1 tbsp
Sweet Peppers – 10
Onion – 1 medium size
Channa Dal – 1 tbsp
Urad Dal – 1 tbsp
Red Chilli – 2
Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
Salt – as needed

To Temper

Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Urad Dal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig


  1. Heat oil in a pan, add Channa dal, urad dal and red chillies, fry until golden brown.
  2. Add onion and sauté well. Then add chopped sweet peppers and fry until raw smell goes.
  3. Add asafoetida and curry leaves, give a quick stir and allow it to cool.
  4. Grind everything to a smooth paste along with salt.
  5. Temper the chutney with ingredients listed under “To Temper”.

Serve this chutney with hot and crispy dosa or Soft Idlies.


  1. Increase the amount of red chillies to suit your taste buds.
  2. You can also add tomatoes or Tamarind for a tangy taste.
