Okra/Vendakaai – 500 grams chopped
Onion – 1 chopped finely
Shredded coconut or desiccated coconut – 1/4 cup
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – as needed
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Chana dal – 1 tsp
Green chilli – 1 slit lengthwise
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Heat a pan with oil, add the ingredients under “To Temper”.
- Then add the chopped onions and fry until transparent along with salt.
- Add the chopped okra, turmeric powder, chilli powder and mix thoroughly until the spices get coated well.
- Once the okra is well cooked switch off the flame and add shredded coconut or desiccated coconut and give a quick stir.
Serve as an accompaniment to rice along with rasam, sambar or kuzhambu. I served it with Rice and Pacha Theeyal.
